Pulmonary physiology is a branch of medicine that studies the function of the lungs and respiratory system, as well as related diseases.
Pulmonary physiology is of great importance because it helps us understand how the lungs and the respiratory system function; it also aids in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The pulmonary physiology service conducts tests and studies to assess patients' lung function, such as spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, and the 6-minute walk test.
It is recommended that you visit the pulmonary physiology department if you experience respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, a persistent cough, wheezing, or chest pain.
A pulmonary function test is performed using specialized equipment that measures the patient's lung capacity and respiratory efficiency, in accordance with the specialist's instructions.
